ARTIST’S STATEMENT

A theme that runs throughout my still-life paintings is the exploration of our relationships with objects. No doubt, we leave our mark on the things we use. Years of pleasure leave our favorite toys, dresses, books, dishes, furniture, etc. worn out. Of no less significance, though perhaps not as well appreciated, are the marks that these-sometimes seemingly mundane-objects leave on us. My work is a format for better understanding my place in time, that is, my relationship to people and the objects in the world around me. Through the selection and placement of the particular subject matter, the use of lighting, color, canvas size and texture, I explore the impact simple things have on us. My hope is that it is not only my understanding that is enriched, but the audiences as well.
